Google Play is going to start highlighting apps with widgets

In a recent announcement, Google has unveiled a series of enhancements aimed at improving the visibility and usability of widgets on the Google Play Store for Android devices. These updates are designed to address long-standing challenges related to widget discoverability and user engagement.

Among the key features being introduced is a new search filter specifically for widgets. This will allow users to effortlessly locate apps that offer widget functionality, streamlining the search process. Additionally, widget badges will be displayed on app detail pages, effectively eliminating any guesswork for users and encouraging them to explore the widget offerings available within apps.

Yinka Taiwo-Peters, a product manager at Google, emphasized the importance of these changes in a recent blog post. “Historically, one of the challenges with investing in widget development has been discoverability and user understanding,” he noted. The new features aim to enhance user experience by making it easier to find and utilize widgets, thereby justifying the effort developers put into creating and maintaining them.

Furthermore, a curated editorial page will be launched, showcasing collections of high-quality widgets. This page will serve as a resource for users looking to discover exceptional widget options, further promoting engagement with this feature.

These updates to widget discoverability tools are expected to roll out soon, marking a significant step forward in enhancing the overall user experience on the Google Play Store.
