Google has initiated the rollout of an innovative AI-driven feature within the Play Store, aptly named “Ask Play about this app.” This new tool seamlessly integrates Gemini AI into app listings, empowering users to pose questions about applications directly within the Play Store, eliminating the need to navigate away for assistance.
How does it work?
Upon accessing a supported app’s page in the Play Store, users will notice a text box titled “Ask Play about this app” conveniently positioned just below the Install button. This feature allows users to:
- Type personalized inquiries, such as “How do I use this app?” or “How do I report a cheater in Call of Duty?”
- Select from suggested queries that are automatically generated based on prevalent user questions.
Gemini AI then provides insightful responses that may encompass usage tips, feature explanations, or step-by-step instructions, thereby enhancing the overall user experience, particularly for those engaging with unfamiliar or newly installed applications.
Feature limitations
Despite the expanding rollout, it is important to note that not all apps currently support this feature. Notably, some of Google’s flagship applications, including YouTube and Google Search, have yet to be included in this initiative. Furthermore, as the answers are generated by AI, there may be instances where the information provided is not entirely accurate. For example, the tool might struggle to deliver precise subscription costs for specific apps.
Nevertheless, the integration of Gemini AI in this capacity represents a significant advancement in enhancing app discovery and usability across the Android ecosystem.
