The Pixel Weather app, designed exclusively for Google’s Pixel devices, has long been a reliable source for weather enthusiasts. However, Google has decided to streamline its weather reporting across all Android devices by phasing out the full-screen weather report feature in favor of standard web search results.
The Google Weather app is being replaced with web search results
For users who have enjoyed the full-screen “Weather” report accessible via a simple homescreen shortcut, this change may come as a disappointment. The previous interface provided a comprehensive view of current conditions, including temperature, high/low forecasts, and a detailed hourly outlook. Users could also explore a 10-day forecast, along with specific metrics such as wind speed, humidity, UV index, and atmospheric pressure, all neatly organized in an engaging format.
According to 9to5Google, the transition away from this dedicated weather experience has begun to unfold. When users tap on the Weather shortcut, they are now redirected to a Google search results page for the term “weather.” This shift marks a departure from the visually rich experience that many have come to appreciate.
Depreciating experience
Reports indicate that Google initiated this change several months ago, but it is only now becoming more widespread. The new interface condenses current and hourly weather predictions into a single card format, which may feel less engaging than its predecessor. A carousel displaying the next 10 days is now available for user interaction, alongside drop-down menus for Precipitation, Wind, Humidity, and Air Quality—features that were not part of the previous layout.
Users have received notifications indicating that “The weather page has moved,” signaling the end of the full-screen experience. The familiar “View all details” button has been removed, and scrolling down now reveals web results instead of a dedicated weather page. This decision suggests that Google is opting for a unified approach by integrating weather information into its Search platform. For those fortunate enough to own a Pixel device, however, the Pixel Weather experience remains unchanged, preserving its unique offerings for its dedicated users.
