Google Play Store to Crack Down on Low-Quality Apps
Starting August 31, 2024, Google Play Store will implement stricter guidelines to ensure that only high-quality apps are available for Android users. In a recent support document, Google emphasized the importance of providing users with a stable, responsive, and engaging experience when using mobile applications.
According to AndroidAuthority, Google will no longer allow apps that crash frequently, lack basic utility, or fail to deliver engaging content. The goal is to maintain a standard of quality that enhances the overall user experience on Google Play.
Google has outlined some common violations that will no longer be tolerated on the platform:
- Apps that lack app-specific functionalities and are static in nature, such as text-only or PDF file apps
- Apps with minimal content that do not offer an engaging user experience, like single wallpaper apps
- Apps that serve no purpose or have no function
- Apps that fail to install properly
- Apps that install but do not load successfully
While Android users have the option to download apps from third-party stores, Google’s efforts to improve the quality of apps on Google Play will benefit the billion users who rely on the platform for their app needs.
It is worth noting that in 2023, Google took similar measures by preventing millions of policy-violating apps from being published on the store and rejecting thousands of app submissions for failing to meet quality standards.
