For those utilizing the Pixel Launcher, the taskbar occasionally showcases recently used apps; however, this feature is influenced more by usage frequency than by the most recent activity, which can lead to some discrepancies in app visibility.
Upcoming Enhancements to the Taskbar
Recent investigations by Mishaal Rahman and Android Authority have unveiled potential updates in the Android QPR Beta 2 that hint at a forthcoming redesign of the taskbar. The new iteration may replace the two suggested apps with two recently used apps, aligning more closely with user expectations. This enhancement mirrors functionalities already adopted by other manufacturers, such as Samsung and OnePlus, which have integrated similar features in devices like the OnePlus Open and Galaxy Z Fold 6, enabling users to view their recent applications directly on the taskbar.
While the prospect of this update is exciting, the timeline for its implementation remains uncertain. It is yet to be determined whether this feature will be included in the upcoming Android 15 release. Although the functionality would be particularly advantageous for foldable devices and tablets, its relevance for standard smartphones running the conventional Android version may be limited. Currently, the feature is not activated, as noted by Rahman, and there is no official announcement regarding its public availability.
Beyond the taskbar enhancements, the Android 15 QPR1 Beta 2 is rumored to introduce additional features, including quick keyword switching and lock screen widgets. However, these developments are still in the testing phase, and as such, they may undergo changes or even be shelved prior to the official launch.
As a tech enthusiast, I find the inclusion of recently used apps on tablets to be incredibly beneficial, reminiscent of the functionality Apple has successfully implemented on the iPad.
