Google Translate rolls out new AI-assisted pronunciation practice feature

Celebrating Two Decades of Innovation

This week, Google commemorates the 20th anniversary of Google Translate with an exciting new feature designed to enhance language learning. The latest addition to the Google Translate app on Android introduces an AI-powered pronunciation practice tool, transforming the way users engage with foreign languages.

With this innovative feature, users can now receive real-time feedback on their pronunciation skills. Upon translating a word or phrase, a “Practice” button appears at the bottom of the screen. By selecting this option, users can enter a dedicated overlay where the app listens to their spoken attempts and provides constructive feedback. This feedback includes insights on clarity and accuracy, helping users refine their pronunciation to sound more like native speakers.

For those who may need a little extra guidance, an easily accessible button allows users to hear an example pronunciation of the word or sentence in question. After listening, users can press “Try again” to continue practicing, fostering a more interactive and engaging learning experience.

This feature is particularly advantageous for individuals seeking to improve their language skills without the financial commitment of various language learning apps. However, it is important to note that the feature is currently exclusive to the Android app in the United States and India, with no announcements regarding its availability on other platforms. Additionally, the pronunciation practice tool is presently limited to three languages: English, Spanish, and Hindi.
