Google’s Calling Cards are rolling out now, and this is our first proper look!

Google has embarked on an exciting journey with the rollout of its new Calling Cards feature, now available in both the Contacts and Phone apps. This innovative addition allows users to craft a personalized profile for their contacts, adding a touch of flair to the way we interact with one another.

Distinctive Features of Calling Cards

After weeks of anticipation, the Calling Cards feature has finally made its debut, mirroring Apple’s Contact Posters but with a unique twist. While Apple’s offering focuses solely on self-customization, allowing users to curate their own images and profiles, Google’s approach empowers users to design how their contacts appear to them.

Upon exploring the latest version of the Google Contacts app (version 4.61.28.792249534), we were pleased to find the Calling Cards feature readily accessible without any additional configuration. Reports from users on platforms like Telegram confirm that this feature is indeed rolling out to select individuals, enhancing the overall user experience.

When you view a contact in the Google Contacts app, a prompt invites you to create a Calling Card for them. This option is also available when adding or editing a contact, ensuring that users have ample opportunities to personalize their interactions. The process is straightforward: users can select an image from their camera, gallery, or Google Photos, followed by choosing a font style and color for the contact’s name. Additionally, users have the option to set the Calling Card as the contact picture, although this step can be bypassed if preferred. Notably, all Calling Cards will sync across devices linked to the same Google account, ensuring consistency and accessibility.

The Calling Card feature also makes its presence known within the Google Phone app (version 188.0.793710089-publicbeta-pixel2024). Users are greeted with a prompt to “get started,” and a dedicated Calling Card field in the settings allows for easy navigation to see which contacts have a Calling Card created. This seamless integration across apps enhances the overall functionality and user experience.

Currently, the feature is in beta testing, with hopes that it will soon be accessible to all users. As it stands, the Calling Cards feature presents a delightful opportunity to elevate the way we connect and communicate, adding a personal touch to our digital interactions.
