In March, Google introduced an innovative feature for its popular Google Keep app, designed to enhance the user experience through artificial intelligence. Initially dubbed the “Help me create a list” tool, it has since been rebranded as the Google Keep Magic List. Currently, this feature is accessible to select Android users, particularly those with Pixel devices. However, non-Pixel users can also take advantage of this functionality if they hold a Google One AI Premium membership or are part of Google Workspace Labs.
Creating Your Magic List
The Magic List feature promises to simplify the process of list-making, whether you’re planning a picnic in Central Park, preparing a Thanksgiving dinner for ten, or curating a playlist of essential Beatles songs. Users can create lists that include checkboxes, allowing for easy tracking of completed tasks, whether it’s items purchased or songs enjoyed.
To get started with the Magic List, users need to open the Google Keep app on a compatible device. By tapping the “+” button located at the bottom right of the screen, they will be presented with four options:
- Image
- Drawing
- List
- Text
By selecting the “List” option, a blue rectangular box appears with the prompt “Help me create a list.” Tapping this box leads users to a field where they can input their list request. For instance, typing “Create shopping list for a family picnic for four” will initiate the list creation process. After hitting the create button, the list is generated. To finalize it, users simply press the Insert button in the lower right corner, transforming it into a functional shopping list ready for use at the supermarket. As items are found, users can check off the corresponding boxes to keep their list current.
If the AI-generated list does not meet expectations, users have the option to refresh the results. Additionally, feedback can be provided to Google by selecting the thumbs up or thumbs down buttons, allowing for continuous improvement of the feature.
