Samsung confirms it will drop Members app support for a near-decade old OS

What you need to know

Samsung has begun notifying users of its Members app that support for devices running Android 7 will be discontinued. This change, effective April 1, 2025, requires users with Android 7 to upgrade to Android 8 or a later version to maintain access to the app.

  • Samsung’s announcement comes as users on the One UI subreddit share their experiences regarding the transition.
  • The pop-up message from Samsung emphasizes its commitment to enhancing service quality, even as it phases out support for the nearly decade-old Android 7, also known as Nougat.

As users reflect on the longevity of support for such an outdated operating system, many express surprise that Samsung has maintained compatibility for this long. Android 7 has not received significant updates since the latter half of 2019, prompting some users to consider upgrading their devices or exploring newer models altogether.

In parallel to this development, Samsung is diligently working on its One UI 7 software, which has faced delays due to issues identified during testing. Recently, testers reported that the “Natural” mode for screen optimization resulted in displays appearing excessively yellow. In response, Samsung has taken the OS back for further refinement, leading to the release of One UI 7 Beta 5, which includes several bug fixes and addresses a crash related to Visual Voicemail.

As March unfolds, Samsung’s timeline for the anticipated Q1 2025 launch of One UI 7 is drawing closer. The company has indicated in a blog post that the new OS will be available “imminently” for eligible Galaxy devices, while other existing models may need to wait a bit longer for their updates.
