EDB Highlights CloudNativePG 1.29, Previews Kubernetes-Native Data Protection at KubeCon Europe

EnterpriseDB (EDB) has announced the community release of CloudNativePG 1.29, showcasing its advancements at KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe 2026 in Amsterdam. This latest iteration of CloudNativePG, an open-source PostgreSQL operator tailored for Kubernetes, introduces modular extensions and enhanced supply chain security features. These improvements aim to minimize the reliance on custom database images, allowing users to install only the PostgreSQL extensions they require. Notably, this includes options for AI-driven vector search, all while ensuring the use of verified components and comprehensive software bill of materials support.

Data Protection Capabilities

In addition to the CloudNativePG update, EDB is previewing a new enterprise data protection solution designed for its EDB Postgres AI for CloudNativePG operator. This innovative capability is engineered to ensure zero data loss through native write-ahead log streaming. It also offers centralized management, robust disaster recovery support, and end-to-end encryption, reinforcing the security of data management processes.

EDB’s initiatives are part of a broader commitment to enhancing data and AI sovereignty and maintaining security compliance within Europe. The company highlights the significance of adhering to regulations such as the EU Cyber Resilience Act. By facilitating the operation of PostgreSQL across both on-premises and cloud environments, EDB aims to empower organizations to avoid vendor lock-in, thereby promoting flexibility and choice in their data management strategies.
