Systems management, data protection, and security software company Quest Software Inc. has unveiled two significant updates aimed at facilitating the enterprise adoption of the open-source relational database management system, PostgreSQL. These enhancements are designed to streamline the migration process to PostgreSQL while optimizing its performance and availability, ultimately allowing enterprises to embrace modern database confidentiality with reduced risk and costs.
Enhancements in Database Management
The first of these innovations, Foglight with the Performance Investigator for PostgreSQL add-on, focuses on enhancing database observability and performance optimization. This solution provides comprehensive workload analysis, enabling database administrators to pinpoint inefficient queries, resolve resource bottlenecks, and tackle locking issues. By offering advanced insights, Foglight empowers enterprises to sustain optimal database performance, ensuring seamless application experiences.
Foglight presents a unified view across various database environments, extending beyond PostgreSQL. Its support for multiple environments is crucial for enterprises managing complex multicloud or hybrid landscapes. This consistent visibility allows organizations to proactively address performance challenges, thereby avoiding costly downtime.
Robust Data Replication with SharePlex
The second solution introduced today, SharePlex, delivers robust data replication and migration capabilities specifically designed to minimize disruption during PostgreSQL adoption. With support for PostgreSQL 17.0, Oracle 23ai, MariaDB 11.4.2, and Google AlloyDB, SharePlex ensures real-time data synchronization across platforms. The solution’s advanced features facilitate database migrations while reducing downtime and ensuring data accuracy and business continuity.
Additionally, SharePlex includes “Compare and Repair” features that effectively address data discrepancies during migrations. This tool allows organizations to run legacy systems alongside PostgreSQL in parallel, enabling phased transitions and thorough testing without interrupting critical operations.
“With our new offerings timed with the release of PostgreSQL 17.0, Quest is committed to empowering organizations to leverage PostgreSQL effectively, maximizing performance and simplifying data migration to unlock the full value of their data,” stated Bharath Vasudevan, vice president of product management at Quest Software. “Our tools are designed to fill critical gaps, providing enterprises with the advanced capabilities they need to not only survive but thrive in this era of big data, artificial intelligence, and large language models.”
Quest, previously a business unit of Dell Technologies Inc., has been under the ownership of private equity firm Clearlake since 2021.
