Microsoft Introduces Copilot Bot to Telegram
Telegram users have a new companion in their messaging experience as Microsoft unveils its official Copilot bot within the app. The AI-powered chatbot is designed to handle text-based inquiries, allowing users to ask questions, search for information, or simply engage in conversation.
Currently in beta, Copilot for Telegram is accessible for free to all Telegram users, whether they’re on a mobile device or desktop. It operates as a regular contact, mirroring a typical chat flow within the app. Users can identify the official Microsoft bot by its verified status and the handle @CopilotOfficialBot. This integration aligns with the emerging trend of AI language models becoming available through messaging platforms, as seen with Meta’s addition of Meta AI to Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram, as well as Google’s introduction of Gemini within Google Messages for Android users.
Upon my initial trial, accessing the Copilot bot required a search for “Copilot Bot” followed by sharing my Telegram phone number with Microsoft. This step might raise an eyebrow for users who value Telegram’s strong privacy reputation, especially those who have relied on the app for discreet communications in the past.

While Copilot for Telegram shares similarities with other Copilots, it currently only processes text requests, lacking the capacity to create images. However, it’s adept at fetching internet information. Microsoft outlines on their blog that the bot can suggest movies, devise workout plans, assist with coding, translate conversations, and locate quick facts online. Users can interact with the bot up to 30 times a day, with this “turn limit” regulating the dialogue between the user and Copilot.
Microsoft’s expansion of its Copilot ecosystem is robust, integrating AI assistants into a range of products. There are specialized Copilots for business applications, PCs that come with Copilot, Copilot for Microsoft 365, and even a premium version that offers access to the latest AI models for a monthly fee of .
