Minecraft World Theme Park Opening in Greater London Next Year

Merlin Entertainments and Mojang Studios are collaborating to create the first-ever Minecraft theme park, named Minecraft World, which will open in 2027 at Chessington World of Adventures. The project has a budget of £50 million and will feature a roller coaster that takes guests on a minecart journey through the Nether. The park will include interactive adventures, themed dining experiences, and block-built playscapes, as well as merchandise stores. The developers are working closely with Minecraft creators to ensure authenticity. Minecraft World is located 35 minutes by train from London Waterloo.

Minecraft Live unveils new dimension, Dungeons II release date and a real-world theme park

Mojang Studios hosted its annual Minecraft Live event on September 26, announcing several significant updates and projects. The highlight was the introduction of The Sift, a new dimension set to launch next year for both Java and Bedrock editions, marking the first new dimension in over 14 years. Additionally, Minecraft Dungeons II is scheduled for release on September 29, featuring enhanced character customization and cooperative multiplayer options, allowing players to explore The Sift before its full integration into the main game. Mojang also provided an update on Minecraft World, a UK-based amusement park set to open in 2027 at Chessington World of Adventures Resort, which will include a coaster named Escape the Nether and a themed hotel. The studio announced a new initiative to foster creativity within the community, with ongoing improvements to tools for creators. Upcoming game updates include a new biome called Frozen Caves, the Wilderness Bound community challenge, and new Sound Effects Packs launching on the Minecraft Marketplace before the end of 2026. Minecraft is also set to launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27, and the Minecraft: Education Edition is celebrating its 10-year anniversary.

Minecraft World to open in 2027 at Chessington park, near London: what this changes for its hotels

Merlin Entertainments is investing £50 million to create Minecraft World, a dedicated park zone at Chessington World of Adventures, set to open in 2027. The park will include a unique roller coaster, interactive trails, play areas made from blocks, and themed dining and shopping experiences. There are currently no plans for Minecraft-themed hotel rooms, although the resort has two existing hotels, Azteca and Safari, and an Explorer Glamping site. The strategic location near London is expected to attract families, potentially increasing overnight stays. Chessington World of Adventures is already home to themed rooms inspired by various franchises.

‘Minecraft’ pop-up event coming to Alton Towers this summer

Merlin Entertainments is enhancing its partnership with Minecraft by launching the 'Minecraft Meet the Mobs' pop-up experience at Alton Towers from July 18 to August 28. This event allows guests to interact with baby mobs in six Minecraft-themed scenes and includes activities like a mob trail for exclusive in-game rewards. Guests can also take photos with characters such as Iron Golem and Creeper, and enjoy themed snacks and merchandise. The experience is included with standard park admission. Minecraft is the best-selling video game of all time, with over 350 million copies sold, and is set to become the first-ever theme park land at Chessington World of Adventures in a £50 million project opening in 2027. Merlin's collaboration with Mojang Studios was announced in 2024, with plans to invest over £85 million in new attractions in the UK and US.

New PAW Patrol land opens May 3 at Chessington ahead of Minecraft World

Chessington World of Adventures will open a new PAW Patrol-themed land on May 3, 2026, marking the UK's first PAW Patrol area. The attraction will include four main rides: Chase’s Mountain Mission (a junior roller coaster), Marshall’s Firetruck Rescue (a rocking ride), Skye’s Helicopter Heroes (an aerial spinning ride), and Zuma’s Hovercraft Adventure (the UK’s first “Drifter” ride). Additionally, there will be three themed play areas, including Rubble & Rocky’s Play Zone and the Flounder Boat. The £50 million investment in this area is part of a broader initiative by Merlin Entertainments, which includes the upcoming Minecraft World set to debut in 2027. Chessington aims to attract young families and enhance its appeal as a family-friendly destination.
