This Good Lock module turns Samsung’s Gallery app into a more capable editor

Gallery Assistant integrates with Enhance-X for improved image and video quality. Users can access it through the Good Lock app, and it allows rearranging tool order for convenience. Samsung’s Gallery App is Getting New Google Photos Sync Feature

Samsung is replacing the OneDrive integration in its Gallery Android app with Google Photos, following Microsoft's announcement that OneDrive photo backup will cease after September 30, 2026. The new cloud sync feature with Google Photos is being rolled out to select Galaxy users, who must update their Gallery Cloud Sync, Samsung Cloud, and Samsung Gallery apps. The integration does not support supervised personal Google accounts or Google Workspace accounts. Users can back up their camera roll, specific albums, and local device folders to Google Photos, but edited photos will appear as separate items, and some Google Photos features will not be accessible for synced photos. Samsung's Gallery app will continue to operate alongside Google Photos, and the company is developing its own web browser for Android and Windows.

Samsung Gallery finally gets Google Photos sync — here’s what you need to do

Samsung is ending its OneDrive integration on September 30 and will instead offer direct Google Photos backup within the Samsung Gallery app. The update, version 15.9.01.7, introduces a "Sync photos and videos" option that allows users to connect a personal Google account for photo and video backup. Users can selectively sync specific local folders or disable main camera roll uploads. This feature is available only on devices running Android 13 or later and requires a compatible Samsung device. Users can disable the Google Photos sync if they prefer not to use it, while still accessing previously backed-up photos via Google Photos.

The good news is that Samsung Gallery is now getting Google Photos integration

Samsung has integrated Google Photos into the Samsung Gallery app, ending its collaboration with Microsoft for OneDrive backups. The latest version of Samsung Gallery (v15.9.01.7) includes a "Sync photos and videos" option, accessible through Menu > Settings. The rollout is gradual, so not all users may see the option immediately. Users can set up automatic backups via the Google Photos app, but they cannot browse their entire Google Photos library within Samsung Gallery. Google Photos could soon be built much deeper into Samsung Gallery

The OneDrive backup feature in the Samsung Gallery app will soon be phased out, and a new service called "Gallery Cloud Sync" is emerging, which will back up photos and videos to Google Cloud. This service is expected to allow synchronization between Samsung Gallery and Google Photos, enabling users to manage their Google storage and syncing preferences. Although not yet live, the rollout of these features could occur later this month or in early October.

Google may finally fix a major frustration with Android’s Photo Picker

Google is enhancing the Android Photo Picker by integrating a built-in media editor, as indicated by the "EditFeature" class found in the Android 17 QPR2 Beta 2. This editor will allow users to make quick edits, such as cropping and marking images, directly within the Photo Picker interface. The media editor aims to streamline the editing process, enabling users to edit media without leaving the Photo Picker, thus improving user experience and consistency across third-party applications. The feature is part of a Project Mainline module, allowing updates through Google Play System Updates. While the media editor is not yet active, further developments are anticipated.

Microsoft Photos for Windows Insiders in the Experimental channel has been updated to feature a cleaner interface with fewer icons and a faster context menu. The update removes unnecessary elements, including the "Ask Copilot" button, and focuses on essential actions like Edit, Print, and Share. The context menu now opens faster and includes a concise list of relevant options. Additional enhancements include a richer file info pane, support for HEIC files without conversion, SVG viewing support, improved launch performance, and new device import controls. However, a new app called "Photos (Preview)" has been introduced, which operates as a WebView2 process and adds complexity to the user experience. Microsoft is seeking user feedback on this experimental app.

The Samsung Browser app on Wear OS now lets you download images and GIFs

Samsung has updated its Browser app on Wear OS, allowing users to download images and GIFs directly to their smartwatches. Users can long-press on images to prompt a "Download image" option, supporting formats like PNG, JPG, JPEG, and GIF, with a maximum file size of 10MB. Downloaded images are stored in a "Downloads" folder in the watch's internal memory and can be viewed as thumbnails on the app's home page. To access full images, a third-party file manager or gallery app is needed. Users can delete individual images or select multiple images for bulk deletion through a long-press action.
