Waze Users Lose Key Navigation Information on Android Auto, Update at Fault

A recent update to Android Auto, version 17.5, has caused a glitch in the Waze navigation app, preventing users from seeing essential trip information such as estimated time of arrival (ETA), distance to destination, and remaining travel time when Waze is displayed in full-screen mode. The information is visible when Waze is shown in the Coolwalk screen alongside other applications. Some users have noted that the journey information briefly reappears during Waze alerts but disappears after the alert is dismissed. There is currently no identified workaround, but users are considering reverting to a previous version of Android Auto or Waze to resolve the issue. Google has not officially acknowledged the glitch, but a Community Specialist has requested additional information from users to assist in diagnosing the problem. Meanwhile, Google Maps remains a reliable alternative for navigation.

Samsung is shutting down a couple of apps; vows to return new and improved

Samsung is phasing out its Quick Measure and AR Doodle applications, with a shutdown date set for December 31, 2026. After this date, Quick Measure will not be available for new downloads or updates, although existing users can still use it, albeit with potential feature limitations. The AR Doodle app will also cease operations on the same date. Samsung previously discontinued its Messages app in July, replacing it with Google Messages. Notifications about the app closures were highlighted by social media user Tarun Vats. Samsung has indicated a commitment to enhancing user experience and may reintroduce these applications with improved services in the future. Quick Measure was designed to monitor heart rates without navigating the full Samsung Health app and was first introduced in 2021. The future of these applications remains uncertain, with potential for reinvention or integration into existing platforms.

Microsoft is expanding the memory integrity protection feature in Windows 11, starting in October. This enhancement aims to strengthen security at the kernel level against sophisticated attacks. Memory integrity protection operates in the background with minimal user configuration. It utilizes Virtualization-based Security (VBS) to create isolated virtual environments for added protection. The system can install security hotpatches without requiring a hard restart, beneficial for critical environments. Large organizations will automatically benefit from this enhancement, while devices with memory integrity disabled will not have it activated automatically. The rollout will enable VBS by default for users, who can choose to disable it but should do so with caution.

Beware of fake Indeed interview apps used to install spyware

Scammers are exploiting the Indeed platform to target job seekers by using counterfeit Android "interview" applications. Users in the UK and Brazil reported being instructed by supposed employers to download fraudulent apps like MyInterview, which compromised their devices. These scammers post fake job listings and prompt applicants to install apps that mimic Indeed's login page and establish a VPN connection. The malicious apps, classified as Trojan.Droppers, can install additional untrusted software and gain control over devices, complicating uninstallation efforts. Indeed confirmed that their interview process does not require downloading any separate app and warned job seekers against such scams. Indicators of compromise include specific MD5 hashes and package names associated with the Trojan droppers and dropped malware payloads.
