Microsoft has released Build 26200.8313 (KB5083631) for the Release Preview Channel, enhancing File Explorer by ensuring that folder view settings remain consistent across all access points. This update allows user preferences, such as sorting, icon sizes, and layouts, to persist regardless of how a folder is accessed, addressing previous inconsistencies where settings would reset when opening folders from different applications. The update also includes improved launch performance, reduced white flash in dark mode, expanded support for additional archive formats, and reliability improvements for explorer.exe. The update is expected to roll out to standard Windows 11 PCs by May.

In the co-op pirate survival game Windrose, players earn experience points (XP) by exploring islands and completing tasks, which include finding and opening treasure chests. The game map indicates the number of chests remaining at each location. During gameplay, the PC Gamer team found one chest at a Traveler's Camp but struggled to locate the second. A memory of a previous camp led them to search for trees with red scarves tied around them, which consistently marked the location of hidden chests. Digging at the base of these trees allowed them to successfully find the second chest at various Traveler's Camps.

Scott Hanselman, VP at Microsoft, has introduced a tool called PeekDesktop for Windows, which allows users to minimize all open windows by clicking on an empty area of their desktop wallpaper. A second click or switching back to any application restores the windows to their original positions. This feature is similar to the "click wallpaper to reveal desktop" function in macOS Sonoma, which has not been available in Windows until now. PeekDesktop is easy to install from GitHub, requires no additional setup, and is compatible with Windows on ARM. It uses minimal system resources and operates through lightweight Windows APIs to manage window states. Users can customize settings from the system tray, and Hanselman is working on enhancements to replicate more macOS-style behaviors.
