In the immersive oceanic realm of the co-op pirate survival game Windrose, players embark on a quest for experience points (XP) by uncovering various island locations and completing associated tasks. A significant aspect of these tasks involves locating and opening treasure chests, with the ultimate goal of fully clearing each location by collecting all available loot. The game’s map conveniently displays icons representing different locations, such as forts, camps, and dungeons, along with a clear indication of how many chests remain to be found. For instance, if a location requires two chests, the map will show an icon marked as (0/2), which updates to 1/2 upon finding the first chest.
During our early adventures in Windrose, three members of the PC Gamer team encountered a puzzling situation at one of the Traveler’s Camps. While one chest was easily located next to a tent and campfire, the search for the elusive second chest proved to be a challenge. Despite our efforts, including digging around the area with a shovel, the vexing 1/2 icon on the map remained stubbornly incomplete. The question lingered: where could that second chest be hidden?
Find the Traveler’s Camp second chest using an old clue
As we continued our exploration, a distant memory surfaced regarding a previous camp where I had discovered a chest containing a note. The note advised players to look for a tree adorned with a red scarf and dig at its base to uncover another treasure chest. Although this particular Traveler’s Camp lacked a similar note, I realized that many camps share common mechanics, even if they don’t all provide explicit clues.
With this insight, we began to revisit all Traveler’s Camps marked with 1/2 chests found. To our delight, we consistently stumbled upon a tree with a red scarf tied around it nearby. Digging at the base of these trees reliably revealed the second chest, allowing us to clear each camp successfully. It seems that every pirate who frequented a Traveler’s Camp in Windrose had the same clever idea: burying their treasure beneath a tree and marking it with a red scarf. Unfortunately, only one of them had the foresight to leave a note for future treasure hunters.
