Google is introducing a feature called Low Light Boost for its messaging platform's in-app camera preview, aimed at improving visibility in dim lighting. This feature brightens the viewfinder in real-time, allowing users to frame their shots better before taking a photo. Low Light Boost adjusts brightness based on surrounding light conditions and operates instantly, unlike traditional Night Mode. There are two methods for implementing Low Light Boost: 1. Low-Light Boost AE Mode, a hardware-level auto-exposure mode available on devices running Android 15 or later, specifically on Pixel 10 devices. 2. Google Low Light Boost, a software-based solution (HDRNet) for devices that do not support AE mode, enhancing brightness through post-processing techniques. The latest beta version of Google Messages, v20260501, includes code hints for the integration of Low Light Boost, although it is not yet fully operational. The feature enhances the viewfinder experience but does not affect the quality of the final image, which requires a separate Night Mode.

In the latest Snapshot release, a new undead passive mob called the camel husk has been introduced, which spawns in desert areas and is often accompanied by hostile riders. The camel husk is unaffected by sunlight and typically appears with a husk wielding a spear and a parched skeleton. It is passive when unmounted but becomes hostile if ridden by a hostile mob. The Snapshot also features a new variant of skeleton called the parched, which appears in low-light conditions and is resistant to sunlight. The spear's lunge enchantment has been adjusted to reduce hunger consumption, and mounts such as horses, mules, donkeys, and camels can now float in water while ridden. New advancements have been added to incorporate the camel husk and parched, along with a new graphical option called "Anisotropic Filtering" to enhance visual quality. Parrots can now mimic sounds from various mobs, and environmental fog in the Nether is consistently applied. Ridden mounts will no longer sink in water, and chunks fade in smoothly. The Data Pack and Resource Pack versions have been updated, and several game rules have been renamed and organized into a registry. New limits for game rules have been established, and modifiers for ARGB color values have been introduced. Numerous bugs have also been fixed in this release.

Microsoft has made an adjustment to Windows Hello Facial Recognition that affects its functionality in dimly lit environments due to a security vulnerability. This change, introduced in the April 2025 Patch Tuesday updates for Windows 11 and Windows 10, requires color cameras to detect a visible face for sign-in. The update addresses a Windows Hello Spoofing vulnerability that was being exploited. Previously, the feature could identify users in low-light conditions using near-infrared imaging technology. Users have reported a workaround by disabling the webcam in Device Manager, allowing IR sensors to authenticate in low light.
