Windows 11’s Start menu redesign is getting a redesign

Microsoft is redesigning the Windows 11 Start menu in response to user feedback about its size and layout. The new design will utilize native WinUI technology for improved performance and include a Low Latency Profile feature to optimize CPU performance. Key changes will allow users to customize the Start menu with resizing options (Large and Small modes) and the ability to hide specific sections, including the pinned section, apps list, and recommended section. These updates are currently being tested in an Insider build and are expected to be released with Windows 11 26H2 in October.

Android’s Linux Terminal no longer restricts you to a single font and window in QPR1 Beta 6

The Android 17 QPR1 Beta 6 has introduced enhancements to the Linux Terminal app, including the ability to import custom fonts from phone storage and multi-window support. Users can now select their preferred font as the default and open new terminal windows via the three-dot overflow menu, with each window appearing in Android’s recents screen. The Linux Terminal app debuted on Pixel devices during the March 2025 Pixel Drop and has seen several improvements since its launch.

Blood Bowl’s videogame rights have been acquired by Slitherine and at this point I’ll take any change as a good sign

Slitherine has acquired the rights to the Blood Bowl series, previously held by Nacon, which faced insolvency and impacted various projects, including Blood Bowl 3. Developers Cyanide had planned to update Blood Bowl 3 to align with the latest tabletop rules, now back on track under Slitherine. Blood Bowl 3 was released with significant issues, including bugs and frustrating microtransactions, leading players to prefer Blood Bowl 2. Despite some improvements, menu navigation remains cumbersome. There is cautious optimism for the series' future under Slitherine's management.

I love the PC, but I’m no longer a fan of Windows

Users are encouraged to create Microsoft accounts, with local accounts being less accessible. The installation prompts users to enable various services, which can be frustrating and intrusive. The Start menu has transformed to include recommendations and promotional content, cluttering its functionality. Microsoft makes it challenging to switch default applications, reinforcing reliance on its ecosystem. Windows 11 collects significant diagnostic data, raising privacy concerns, and users must actively seek to disable data collection features. Public institutions in Europe are considering alternatives to Microsoft due to these concerns. The trend towards subscription models, such as Microsoft 365, can feel burdensome for home users. Hardware requirements for Windows 11, including TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot, have rendered many older PCs obsolete. Despite criticisms, Windows remains a powerful operating system essential for many workflows. Linux is gaining popularity, especially among gamers, as a viable alternative. Users desire a less intrusive and more user-friendly version of Windows that restores their control over devices without constant interruptions.

Massive Samsung Galaxy Glasses leak gives sneak peek into manager app and gestures

A leak has revealed details about the Galaxy Glasses manager app, which will serve as the main hub for managing Samsung's upcoming smart glasses. The app will assist users in pairing the glasses, installing updates, and adjusting settings. It will feature menu options such as Camera, AI assistants, Read notifications aloud, Advanced features, Accessibility, and Find my glasses, with additional settings accessible only when connected to the glasses. Users can also automatically import photos and videos taken with the eyewear. The leak also describes intuitive buttons and gestures for user interaction with the Galaxy Glasses. Users can swipe to navigate music tracks and adjust volume, tap to pause or resume media playback, and use a button on the arm to capture photos or record videos. The glasses will have two LED lights to indicate recording status. Captured images and videos will be available in the Now Bar for previewing and reframing, with functionality expected to extend to the Galaxy Watch. Additionally, a Galaxy Glasses Controller app is in development for Galaxy Watches, and the upcoming Galaxy Ring will support gesture controls for enhanced user experience with the smart glasses.

Google Is Finally Giving Android Users The Backup Settings They Should Have Always Had

Google is rolling out a per-app backup feature for Pixel devices, allowing users to control which specific apps are backed up to the cloud. This feature can be accessed through Settings > Accounts and backup > Google Backup > Other device data, where users can see the top three apps consuming space and toggle backups on or off for each app. Users can also view the backup size for each app and manage apps that currently have no data backed up. Android 17 ‘sneak peek’ at a foldable gaming mode has my attention—and then some
