A reading of 91% RAM usage in Task Manager does not necessarily indicate that a PC is short on memory. Microsoft’s RAMMap tool provides a detailed breakdown of memory usage into categories such as Active, Standby, Modified, and Free memory. Task Manager presents a single total for memory usage, which can be misleading. An 8GB PC may show 7.1GB used out of 7.8GB without detailing the composition of that figure. Windows retains recently used app data in Standby, allowing for quick access, which means Standby memory is counted as Available. RAMMap categorizes memory usage as follows: - Active: Memory currently utilized by applications and system processes. - Standby: Cached pages that can be reclaimed by Windows. - Modified: Pages that have been altered and need to be written to storage. - Free and Zeroed: Pages ready for reuse. In a test, RAMMap showed 6.96GiB Active, 580MiB Standby, 263MiB Modified, and approximately 36MiB of Free plus Zeroed memory. Task Manager reported 685MB Available, mostly from cached memory. Committed refers to virtual memory allocated to applications, while Compressed indicates memory reduced in size by Windows. Resource Monitor offers a built-in view of memory usage. Emptying the Standby list using RAMMap reallocates memory rather than creating it, as shown in a scenario where Standby memory decreased from 996MiB to 258MiB, but Task Manager’s Available figure dropped from 1.32GB to 921MB. If Available memory consistently diminishes and the PC lags, adding more RAM may be necessary. Windows counts Standby memory as Available because it can be reclaimed quickly. RAM cleaner apps do not effectively increase Available memory, as Windows rebuilds the cache from the drive. Committed in Task Manager does not mean RAM in use; it refers to virtual memory allocated to applications.

A fast PC enhances productivity by allowing users to run complex software and multitask efficiently. The latest version of Windows, Windows 11 2024 Update Version 24H2, was launched in October 2024 and offers improved speed and usability compared to previous versions. To optimize a Windows PC's performance, users can take several steps: - Delete old files to free up space. - Remove unwanted startup programs through the Windows Settings app or Task Manager. - Update drivers via Device Manager to ensure optimal performance. - Pause OneDrive syncing to reduce RAM usage. - Use ReadyBoost with an external USB drive to increase memory storage. - Install antivirus software to detect and eliminate viruses. - Upgrade RAM for better performance under heavy usage. - Change power mode to "Best Performance" in settings. - Adjust Windows appearance by disabling visual effects. - Turn off unwanted notifications to minimize disruptions. - Uninstall unnecessary apps to free up resources. - Enable Game Mode for optimized gaming performance. - Restart the PC regularly to clear RAM and refresh resources. - Restore the PC to a previous setting if performance issues persist.

Embark is overhauling Arc Raiders in preparation for the update titled Frozen Trail, which includes revamping anti-cheat measures, introducing a potential PvE test, and adjusting loot hotspots. A significant change involves reworking the character Celeste, voiced by Diana Gardner, to better reflect her performance and enhance the game's narrative. Chief creative officer Stefan Strandberg noted that Celeste's previous design limited expressive capabilities, hindering storytelling. The team aims to integrate more authentic human performances to create a more immersive experience for players.

Windows updates are issued regularly, primarily for performance enhancement and security reinforcement. They address bugs, improve compatibility, and distribute security patches to mitigate vulnerabilities. Security vulnerabilities are frequently discovered, with alerts issued by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and documented in the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) program. Microsoft releases security fixes on Patch Tuesday, the second Tuesday of each month, and all updates are cumulative. Users of unsupported software versions, such as Windows 10, face increased security risks. Major feature updates occur annually, with optional non-security updates released periodically. For example, the Windows 11 February 2026 preview update introduced new features, although these are not part of the stable channel.

Microsoft has rolled out its Low Latency Profile (LLP) technology to all Windows 11 users as part of the KB5121003 update, aimed at enhancing performance across the Windows graphical user interface, native OS applications, and third-party software using Win32 APIs. The LLP utilizes a "race to sleep" mechanism that temporarily elevates CPU frequency to expedite app launches. Following the update, users reported reduced loading times for applications like Notepad, Calculator, Chrome, and the Epic Games Store. The feature is being distributed through the Controlled Feature Rollout system, and can be force-enabled using the ViveTool program. While some critics view it as a superficial enhancement, Microsoft defends it by comparing it to similar strategies used by Apple in macOS and noting its commonality in Arm chips.

Owners of Radeon video cards are experiencing software challenges on Windows 10, including screen flickering, video game crashes, and system reboots. Attempts to resolve these issues through clean installations of AMD drivers have often been unsuccessful, particularly for users of high-end models like the Radeon RX 7900 XT. Some community members recommend transitioning to Windows 11, which reportedly offers better stability and performance with AMD drivers, though concerns exist about potential performance declines on older CPUs and the costs of upgrading RAM. For users wishing to stay on Windows 10, experts suggest disabling fast startup, disconnecting from the internet, booting in safe mode, using the DDU utility to uninstall old drivers, and then reinstalling the driver package while disabling core isolation in security settings.
