Nvidia & Microsoft push local AI agents on Windows

NVIDIA has enhanced the capability to run AI agents locally on its hardware in collaboration with Microsoft and software partners, coinciding with the launch of new RTX Spark Windows PCs. The installation process for local agent software has been simplified, with improved inference speeds and the introduction of NVIDIA PAIR, which distributes inference tasks across multiple PCs on a local network. NVIDIA is also improving performance in the open-source inference stack, achieving throughput increases of up to 1.9 times on GeForce RTX 5090 and up to 1.4 times on DGX Spark clusters. The PAIR software identifies compatible PCs on the same network to optimize computing resources, supporting various hardware configurations. The upcoming RTX Spark Windows PCs, set to launch in October, will include compact desktop and laptop designs featuring Blackwell GPU and Grace CPU architecture. Game publishers like Electronic Arts and Ubisoft are developing titles for these systems. Additionally, CyberLink's PhotoDirector AI PC Mode will integrate local AI processing for creative tasks, emphasizing the trend of migrating generative AI workloads from cloud to local devices. Prolific Microsoft 0-day hunter drops CrowdStrike Falcon exploit PoC

Nightmare Eclipse, a security researcher known for identifying vulnerabilities in Microsoft products, has shifted focus to other vendors, revealing a zero-day vulnerability called FalconFlank that targets CrowdStrike’s Falcon endpoint security platform. FalconFlank is a privilege escalation vulnerability that exploits the Microsoft Office malicious macros remediation feature within CrowdStrike Falcon. CrowdStrike is investigating the claims and advises customers to disable the Microsoft Office File Suspicious Macro Removal Windows policy setting while assuring them of continued protection through Cloud Anti-malware settings. The exploit works on fully updated Windows 11 25H2 and Windows Server 2025 systems running CrowdStrike Falcon with Optimal Protection enabled. Nightmare Eclipse has also discovered other vulnerabilities, including HardBreacher affecting Kaspersky’s endpoint antivirus and PrettyPrague in Gen Digital’s Avast antivirus, which allows attackers to dump the SAM database. Gen Digital is developing a patch for the Avast vulnerability, while Kaspersky has not commented. Additionally, Nightmare disclosed a memory corruption zero-day vulnerability in Nvidia, named GreenSection, which causes system crashes.

MHA issues advisory on malicious Android apps used to steal money, take control of phones

Cybercriminals are increasingly using malicious Android applications disguised as pornography apps to take control of users' devices and conduct unauthorized financial transactions. The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) has issued a warning about this trend. These apps are often promoted on social media and require users to download APK files from outside the Google Play Store. The National Cybercrime Threat Analytics Unit (NCTAU) has reported a rise in financial fraud linked to these applications, which include names like “Night Play,” “Reloop,” and “Kyss.” Once installed, these apps request sensitive permissions, such as Accessibility access, allowing malware to read screen information, click buttons, enter OTPs or PINs, confirm transactions, and initiate fund transfers, leading to unauthorized access to bank accounts. Additionally, the malware may install secondary applications or a VPN to reroute internet traffic through attacker-controlled servers, exposing sensitive data. These apps may also prevent uninstallation through standard device settings. The NCTAU advises users to only install apps from trusted sources, avoid unknown APK files, refrain from granting Accessibility permissions to unfamiliar apps, regularly review installed applications, and keep their devices updated. Users should monitor bank accounts for suspicious activity and, if compromised, restart in Safe Mode to uninstall malicious apps. If removal is difficult, backing up data and performing a factory reset is recommended. Citizens are encouraged to report fraudulent applications or cybercrime incidents through the national cybercrime helpline 1930 or the government’s reporting portal.

Google enforcing new Android app memory limits in February
