Microsoft has acknowledged a software bug in its Windows operating system that causes misleading pop-up notifications, indicating that antivirus protection is disabled. These alerts began appearing after the latest Microsoft Defender Antivirus updates, despite the antivirus functioning correctly. The notifications can occur at startup and intermittently, and cannot be silenced through standard notification controls. The issue affects various versions of Windows and Windows Server with the latest Defender updates. Microsoft is working on a resolution, but no timeline has been provided. Users are advised to verify their antivirus status through the Windows Security app and can ignore the notifications if real-time protection is confirmed as active.

Tomorrow marks the official release of Onimusha: Way of the Sword, and Capcom has provided a PC benchmark tool for gamers. Benchmark tests were conducted using an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D processor, 32GB of DDR5 RAM at 6000MHz, and various graphics cards including AMD’s Radeon RX 6900XT, RX 7900XTX, RX 9070XT, and NVIDIA’s RTX 2080Ti, RTX 3080, RTX 4090, RTX 5080, and RTX 5090, on Windows 10 64-bit with specific drivers. The game includes customizable graphics settings such as Textures, Meshes, Sky, Foliage, Shadows, Ray Tracing, NVIDIA’s DLSS 4.5, and AMD’s FSR 3.1. At 1080p with Max Settings, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 showed a bottleneck but achieved an average framerate exceeding 220FPS, with all tested GPUs maintaining over 60FPS. At 1440p with Max Settings, the top five GPUs also performed well, with the NVIDIA RTX 3080 providing a smooth experience, and the AMD Radeon RX 6900XT averaging 68FPS. At Native 4K with Max Settings, the NVIDIA RTX 4090, RTX 5080, and RTX 5090 maintained framerates above 60FPS, while the AMD Radeon RX 9070XT and RX 7900XTX offered satisfactory performance. The game's graphical fidelity does not match the latest Resident Evil titles, with noticeable visual shortcomings despite being powered by the RE Engine. The Ray Tracing feature does not significantly enhance visuals. The PC demo and benchmarking process showed no stutters or performance issues, even with Denuvo anti-tamper technology in use. Overall, Onimusha: Way of the Sword runs well on PC without requiring high-end specifications, although its visuals may not impress players.

Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission when purchases are made through links in their articles. The Control mod has led to experimentation with DLSS 5 .dll files among gamers, resulting in varied visual outcomes. For example, integrating DLSS 5 into The Blood of Dawnwalker caused visual distortions in characters. The early access version of NBA 2K27 has prompted modders to create game-agnostic versions of DLSS 5, allowing integration into various titles. DLSS 5 can produce impressive visual effects when used correctly, but it significantly impacts performance, potentially reducing frame rates by 50-60%. For instance, using DLSS 5 on an RTX 5090 dropped frame rates from 110 fps to below 50 fps. In Football Manager 26, DLSS 5 improves environmental lighting, pitch details, and player profile pictures. The installation of DLSS 5 can be done through the ReShade HDR Installer from GitHub, simplifying the process. Players can customize DLSS 5 settings in-game using the RenoDX tab. However, there are concerns about how such modifications may affect the original artistic vision of the games.

The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) has issued an advisory about malicious Android applications disguised as adult-content apps, which are promoted through social media and distributed outside official app stores. The National Cybercrime Threat Analytics Unit (NCTAU) warned that these apps can compromise mobile device security by requesting sensitive permissions and may install additional software without user consent, leading to unauthorized financial transactions. Users are advised to download apps only from trusted sources like the Google Play Store, avoid installing APK files from unverified sources, and refrain from granting accessibility permissions to untrusted applications. Recommendations include regularly reviewing installed apps, keeping Google Play Protect enabled, and monitoring bank accounts for unauthorized activities. Victims of cyber fraud are encouraged to report incidents via the national cybercrime helpline or the government’s reporting portal.

Google Clock has introduced a redesigned Timers tab with a fresh design and new app icon. The update includes preset timers for 1, 5, 10, and 15 minutes, which can be started with a tap. The interface now uses full labels for Hours, Minutes, and Seconds instead of abbreviations. A green "Start" button has replaced the former icon, and the number pad has a flatter appearance without circular backgrounds. The layout for multiple timers has been changed to a grid format for better navigation, while the single timer design remains the same with a repositioned pause button and a reset option outside the countdown. This redesign is part of a server-side update linked to version 9.1 of Google Clock. Users may need to force stop the app to see the changes.

Microsoft has acknowledged an issue affecting some Windows devices after the installation of the KB5120998 preview update released on August 27, 2026. This issue primarily impacts Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2, causing desktop settings, including wallpaper and themes, to reset or be lost, often resulting in a solid black background. Users are unable to manually restore their customized settings due to the issue preventing the correct loading of settings. The KB5120998 update was intended to enhance the Start menu, taskbar, and Windows search but inadvertently introduced complications, including changes to mouse settings that cannot be restored. The update is optional but installs automatically for users with the "Get the latest updates as soon as they're available" feature enabled. A similar bug occurred in February 2020 with the KB4539602 update, which disrupted desktop wallpaper functionality.

OneDrive offers a minimum of one terabyte of online storage for Microsoft 365 subscribers and provides seamless backup of files and settings, particularly useful when transitioning to a new PC. However, its automatic backups can lead to excessive internet bandwidth usage and clutter with unnecessary files. Recent updates allow users to opt out of OneDrive backup entirely, although the specifics of this feature are unclear. Users can also manage their experience by selectively backing up folders and regularly reviewing stored files.
