Google builds on its hotel price tracking for Android with a summer update

Google is launching a hotel discovery update that enhances its previous offerings from the summer of 2025. The update also broadens the Agentic Booking feature to more countries, including the U.S., allowing users to use AI Mode for booking restaurants. This is not a drill: All-timer weirdo game Deadly Premonition now playable on Linux as of Valve’s most recent Proton beta, plus 17 others and your EA library (until EA breaks it again)

Proton 11 beta 1 has been released by Valve, enhancing the Steam Deck and Linux desktops, and incorporating features from Wine 11. This update includes an initial Arm64 version of Proton, with plans for implementation in the upcoming Steam Frame. Some Windows games may perform better on Linux with this update. Newly playable games include "Unknown Faces," "Gothic 1 Classic," "X-Plane 12," "Breath of Fire IV," and "Deadly Premonition." The update also fixes various issues, such as video playback in "She Sees Red," rendering problems with the Ukrainian language option in "Chambers," and voice chat issues in "Phasmophobia." Improvements have been made in VR support for "No Man's Sky," and many other gameplay and performance enhancements have been implemented across various titles. Proton 11 beta 1 is based on Wine 11.0 and includes updates to several components, including vkd3d, dxvk, and Wine Mono.

Windows 11’s mandatory update is pushing users to Microsoft Edge

Microsoft has programmed its Edge browser to automatically launch after a Windows 11 update, displaying a page that informs users their update is complete and prompts them to explore new features. This page lacks a close button, directing users to click a blue "Next" button to proceed. The features highlighted include the reinstatement of the taskbar clock, the ability to pin Emojis to the taskbar, Copilot's document summarization, the Snipping Tool's Quick markup, and AI actions in File Explorer's context menu. Users can provide feedback via like and dislike buttons, but these do not close the page. Windows 11 also includes pre-installed Get Started and Get Help apps that could showcase features instead of redirecting users to Edge. Edge, built on the Chromium engine, supports all extensions from that platform and includes features like AI tab organizer, Vertical Tabs, and Immersive Reader.

Skills can operate on the current page while also pulling data from other open tabs. This feature is designed to streamline repetitive tasks and improve user experience by applying saved prompts without needing to reconfigure them for different pages. User consent is prioritized for significant actions, and the update is currently available to select users on Chrome desktop with English-US language settings. Saved Skills will sync across all desktop devices for signed-in users. Users can manage their Skills by typing the forward slash (/) and clicking the compass icon.

Google Meet lands on Android Auto, but there’s a catch

Google Meet has launched an audio-only version for Android Auto, prioritizing driver safety by allowing meetings without video. The app features a user-friendly interface with Scheduled and History tabs for easy access to meetings. However, it currently lacks complete support for work profiles, meaning users cannot access work schedules or meeting history from the car. The design does not include a virtual green room or pre-call screen, and users join meetings immediately upon tapping. While the audio-only format aims to enhance productivity, it raises concerns about work-life balance and may lead to missed information during discussions. Users may join smaller meetings with microphones activated, and larger calls may have users muted by default. For more complex tasks, users are advised to pull over and use their phones. The rollout of this feature is happening in stages.

Although it requires some adaptation, it is designed for users needing deep control over file management. After testing both, the user preferred Files for its seamless integration into their workflow, finding it more intuitive for quick tasks, while OneCommander is better suited for extensive file manipulation. The choice between the two depends on individual workflow preferences, with neither fully replacing File Explorer.

Microsoft will begin rolling out the April 2026 Security Update for Windows 11 on April 14, 2026. This update includes significant changes such as: 1. Smart App Control (SAC) can now be managed without reinstalling the operating system, allowing users to toggle it on or off via Windows Security. 2. Windows Narrator has been enhanced to generate AI-based image descriptions, available to users on a Microsoft 365 Family plan. 3. The pen settings page will include an option to configure the "Same as Copilot key" feature. 4. File Explorer will receive updates including the ability to use Voice Typing for renaming files and fixes for various bugs. 5. The update supports display refresh rates of 1000Hz or higher, improves auto-rotation functionality, and enhances HDR performance for certain displays.
