Google is testing a more vibrant, organized Gemini app, and I hope it sticks

Google is testing a visual overhaul for its Gemini application on Android devices, introducing brighter colors and new icons. The redesign includes a shift from a sky-blue background to a vibrant blue with a gradient, and a revamped dark mode background. Enhancements will extend to temporary chats and the Gemini Live interface, with distinct background colors for light and dark modes. The new interface will feature minimalistic icons and may include an animated button inspired by ChatGPT’s Voice Mode. The account picker may be removed from the home screen and relocated to the sidebar, which will have tidier icons and occupy the full screen when opened. Additional modifications include new buttons for initiating chats and sharing options. Some features may not appear in the final public release.

Gemini app bug removes features, reverts UI on Android

A bug in the Gemini app has led to the removal of several features, including the ability to upload NotebookLM notebooks via the ‘plus’ menu, the disappearance of the “Temporary chat” button, and the option to “Import memory to Gemini” from the profile menu. The app's design has reverted to side-by-side pills from a list format, and the background color has changed from black to gray, affecting the visual experience. Android users have also experienced a return to a previous overlay design that limits access to the Tools menu, and the fullscreen glow effect has been removed. This issue is affecting users across both stable and beta channels with Google app version 17.14, and a server-side fix is expected to restore the lost functionalities. The Gemini web platform remains unaffected.

Gemini app rolls out new glow on Android and moves Temporary chat

The Gemini overlay on Android has been updated to include a new glow effect that extends to the screen's perimeter, featuring a predominant blue hue with hints of red, green, and yellow. The Temporary chat feature on the web has been redesigned, with its icon moved to the top-right corner for better visibility and usability. Users must return to the homepage to initiate a Temporary chat while in a conversation. These updates are being rolled out to all Gemini accounts on the web, with limited availability on mobile devices. A force stop of the Google app may expedite the rollout of the glow effect on Android devices.
