Google is testing a more vibrant, organized Gemini app, and I hope it sticks

Google is currently in the process of testing a significant visual overhaul for its Gemini application on Android devices. This anticipated redesign is set to introduce a palette of brighter, more saturated colors, along with a fresh set of icons that aim to enhance user experience.

Interface Enhancements

The latest adjustments, which were activated through modifications in the Google app version 17.16.21, reveal a potential shift from the existing sky-blue background to a more vibrant blue featuring a subtle gradient. Additionally, users can expect a revamped dark mode background, moving away from the current all-black interface to a more visually appealing alternative.

Beyond the standard chat interface, these enhancements are likely to extend to temporary chats and the Gemini Live interface. The redesign may include distinct background colors for both light and dark modes, departing from the current monochromatic scheme that predominantly features a dark background.

In terms of usability, the new interface is expected to feature minimalistic icons, contributing to a cleaner overall aesthetic. Notably, an animated button inspired by ChatGPT’s Voice Mode may be introduced in the Gemini Live section, potentially replacing the existing animation that currently occupies the lower part of the interface.

Moreover, Google appears to be streamlining the user experience by potentially removing the account picker from the Gemini home screen. This feature, which allows users to switch accounts, may be relocated to the bottom of the sidebar, which itself is set to undergo significant changes. The new sidebar design is expected to feature tidier icons and will occupy the full screen when opened, enhancing accessibility compared to the current interface, which only utilizes about 80% of the screen width.

Additional modifications will include new buttons for initiating chats and sharing options within the main chat interface. However, it’s important to note that, as with all APK teardowns, there remains a possibility that some of these features may not be included in the final public release. As developments unfold, updates regarding any changes to the interface will be shared with the community.
