Cozy wizard life simulation game Aether Wizard Life launches in fall 2028 for PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, and PC

Kinetic Publishing has partnered with Vonder Games to release the life simulation game, Aether Wizard Life, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, and PC via Steam, scheduled for fall 2028. Players will take on the role of a young apprentice mage in the haunted town of Starfall, starting each day in a customizable walking castle. Gameplay includes growing magical crops, caring for exotic creatures, exploring dungeons, and engaging with townsfolk for side quests. The game features over 30 wizard skills, customization options for the player's wizard, and the ability to pursue romantic relationships with 20 dateable NPCs. Key elements include mastery of magic, exploration of the haunted town, castle personalization, and assisting townsfolk while uncovering the mystery of missing mages. A new video and screenshots have been released to showcase the game.

Marvel Rivals hits the Ozempic, comes back 40 GB lighter

Marvel Rivals has reduced its file size by approximately 40 GB for PC users as part of an "Optimized texture resource compression strategy across all platforms." Creative director Guangyun Chen stated that a massive texture compression overhaul is being implemented in season 9.5 without sacrificing visual quality. Helldivers 2 also reduced its file size from around 154 GB to approximately 23 GB by eliminating redundant data. The trend towards efficient data management in gaming is evident, especially as SSD prices rise.

Dungeons & Dragons announced a crossover with World of Warcraft and hinted at a Star Wars crossover set to debut in 2027 as part of a themed event titled "Season of Rebellion." The initiative, called D&D Universes Beyond, aims to enhance the D&D experience and is inspired by successful monetization strategies from Magic: The Gathering. Upcoming projects include the return of settings like Dragonlance and Greyhawk, with original co-creators involved, and the return of the character Drizzt and the Dark Sun setting.

The voice of Lady D and Orin the Red will be back for the next D&D videogame

Baldur's Gate 3 showcases the successful adaptation of Dungeons & Dragons principles into a video game RPG. Wizards of the Coast is developing a new title called Warlock, a third-person action-adventure game inspired by God of War, through its internal studio, Invoke. Maggie Robertson will voice the protagonist's patron, Tasha, who is an archfey and will grant players eldritch abilities. Tricia Helfer is also involved in the game. Gameplay is expected to be revealed at Gamescom, scheduled for August 26–30 in Cologne.

Dark Sun, D&D’s most heavy metal setting, will be back in 2027

In the 1990s, the Dungeons & Dragons setting known as Dark Sun emerged, depicting a world ravaged by exploitative sorcerer-kings and featuring warriors with psychic abilities. Dark Sun briefly returned during D&D's 4th edition, and there has been growing demand for its revival in the 5th edition. At Gen Con's D&D keynote, Wizards of the Coast announced the return of Dark Sun, along with a new rulebook titled Blood and Power, a setting guide called Edge of Oblivion, and a special edition of the Player's Handbook. All three publications are set for release next year. Due to mature content, these books will be shrink-wrapped and rated 18+ for profanity, bloodshed, nudity, and sexuality.

5TH Cell Reveals Broke Wizards, a New 6-Player Co-Op Game for PC

5TH Cell is developing a new co-op adventure game called Broke Wizards, set to launch on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. In the game, players can team up as one to six Wizard roommates to complete whimsical jobs and gather funds to pay rent before the week's end. They face challenges from an Imp Landlord and engage in various magical tasks such as rescuing towns, exploring backrooms, racing enchanted ravens, and playing a wizard-themed mobile game. Combat involves using spells while avoiding collateral damage. After work, players can relax with activities like watching videos, playing instruments, and competing in PvP matches. The game features customization options, including outfits and companions, and progression is based on collecting Magic Keys through jobs and paying rent to unlock a treasure chest that grants ownership of their home.
