A group of activist hackers has reportedly breached Spotify’s extensive audio library, gaining access to a staggering collection of data. According to a blog post from the hackers, they have successfully infiltrated the platform, acquiring access to 86 million tracks and 256 million lines of metadata.
In a bold move, the hackers have announced their intention to disseminate the stolen content through torrent networks, raising concerns about copyright infringement and the potential impact on artists and creators. Spotify has acknowledged the breach, confirming that the hackers accessed “some audio files from the platform” and that metadata has indeed been compromised.
Spotify, a titan in the streaming industry, boasts a library of over 100 million tracks, nearly seven million podcasts, and around 350,000 audiobooks. This incident highlights the ongoing vulnerabilities within digital platforms and the challenges they face in safeguarding user data and content.
