We are pleased to share the latest enhancements to the Microsoft Photos app, now being rolled out on Windows 11 across all Insider channels. This update introduces a suite of powerful features tailored for Copilot+ PCs, aimed at making the enhancement, rediscovery, and organization of your photos a seamless experience.
Relight
The innovative Relight feature empowers users to master lighting in their images like never before. With the ability to position up to three light sources, adjust light color, and determine a focus point for automatic light direction, users can achieve stunning results. The addition of brightness and intensity controls allows for precise adjustments, ensuring that every photo shines just right. For those seeking efficiency, built-in presets offer a selection of ready-made lighting styles that can be applied with a single click. Relight transforms complex lighting adjustments into an intuitive visual experience, perfect for correcting poor lighting or adding creative flair.
NOTE: Relight will initially be available on Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs, with support for AMD and Intel® powered Copilot+ PCs expected in the coming months.
Improved Photo Search with Natural Language
Locating the perfect photo is now more straightforward, thanks to the enhanced, semantically-based Windows search integrated within the Photos app. Users can effortlessly find images by entering descriptive phrases such as “sunset at the beach” or “family outdoor fun.” The app will then present the most relevant results, eliminating the need to recall exact file names or rely on other properties like date or file type. This improved search functionality applies to photos stored in your Pictures Library that have been indexed locally. For further insights into how semantic indexing operates on Copilot+ PCs, including supported file types and languages, additional resources are available.
Entra ID Support for Restyle Image and Image Creator
For our commercial users signed in with Microsoft Entra ID, access to Restyle Image and Image Creator is now available, expanding features that were previously exclusive to those using personal Microsoft accounts.
To take advantage of these new features and improvements, ensure your Photos app is updated to version 2025.11060.5006.0 or higher. As always, we encourage you to share your feedback via the Feedback Hub (WIN + F) under Apps > Photos.
