Streamlining BIOS Updates for Users
In the evolving landscape of technology, the importance of keeping firmware up to date cannot be overstated. While Windows Update can automatically manage some firmware updates, there are instances where users must take manual action. Recognizing this need, motherboard manufacturers are striving to simplify the update process for their users. A notable advancement comes from Asus, which has introduced a new feature in its EZ Flash utility for the latest Z890 motherboards.
During a recent AMA live stream on YouTube, Asus showcased this innovative feature. With the introduction of EZ Flash 4, users can now apply BIOS updates directly from compressed ZIP files, eliminating the cumbersome step of unzipping the update file before flashing it to the motherboard. This seemingly minor adjustment significantly enhances the user experience, particularly for those who may not be as technically inclined.
Moreover, Asus has upgraded the BIOS interface resolution to 1920 x 1080 on the Z890 boards, aligning with contemporary display standards and providing a sharper, more visually appealing experience.

Staying current with BIOS updates is increasingly crucial, especially in light of recent developments. For instance, Intel’s 0x12b microcode update addresses potential instability issues associated with the latest Raptor Lake and Raptor Lake Refresh CPUs. However, the latest major Windows 11 update has also introduced compatibility challenges. Users have reported widespread issues with the Windows 11 24H2 update on systems utilizing Intel’s Core Ultra 200S series CPUs paired with Z890 chipset motherboards.
Interestingly, these complications appear to be linked to the integrated Iris Xe-LPG graphics within these CPUs, which have been causing disruptions following the installation of the 24H2 update. While primarily affecting laptop users relying on Intel’s integrated graphics, desktop users who prefer using the iGPU for basic display tasks are also encountering difficulties.
Fortunately, there are a couple of viable workarounds. Users can disable the integrated GPU in the BIOS settings before installing the 24H2 update. Alternatively, and more ideally, they can proactively install any available BIOS updates for their Z890 motherboard, which should include fixes for the identified issues.
Major motherboard manufacturers, including Asus, ASRock, Gigabyte, and MSI, are already aware of the situation and have begun rolling out patched BIOS versions. For those utilizing Intel’s latest Core Ultra chips on a Z890 board and intending to use the integrated graphics, updating the BIOS prior to transitioning to Windows 11 24H2 is essential.
The process for accessing the BIOS and initiating an update may differ slightly depending on the manufacturer and model. However, most modern boards now facilitate the downloading and application of official updates directly through the BIOS interface, much like Asus’ EZ Flash 4 utility does.
