Capcom has issued a cautionary note regarding the compatibility of its popular Monster Hunter series with Windows 10, effective next month. As the clock ticks down to Microsoft’s cessation of support for Windows 10 on October 14, the Japanese gaming giant has made it clear that it can no longer assure players of seamless gameplay for titles such as Monster Hunter: World, Monster Hunter Rise, and Monster Hunter Wilds.
Implications for Players
In a message shared on Steam, Capcom expressed gratitude to its player community for their continued enjoyment of its products. However, it also stated that while these games will remain playable on Windows 10 post-October 14, 2025, future system updates or game title updates could render them incompatible with the operating system. The company emphasized that proper functionality cannot be guaranteed once Microsoft has ended support.
Capcom further clarified that if players encounter issues running the games after this date, support will be limited to information available prior to the discontinuation of Windows 10 support. Additionally, the company will halt services aimed at troubleshooting problems related to the game on this operating system.
Valve’s Parallel Developments
In a related note, Valve has announced that it will cease support for 32-bit versions of Windows 10 on Steam starting January 1, 2026. This decision comes in light of data from its August 2025 Steam Hardware Survey, which indicated that a mere 0.01% of users were still operating on this version of the OS.
Market Dynamics
Amidst these developments, Capcom’s president, Haruhiro Tsujimoto, recently pointed to the high price of the PlayStation 5 as a contributing factor to the slower-than-expected sales of Monster Hunter Wilds. Despite this, the title achieved remarkable success, selling eight million copies within just three days of its release, marking it as the fastest-selling game in Capcom’s illustrious history.
