In a recent development, Microsoft is facing scrutiny over an issue affecting classic Outlook users, particularly those utilizing the Copilot features. A bug introduced in build 20026.20182 has led to the disappearance of the Copilot button and has rendered other Copilot functionalities inoperable. This situation arises for users holding either a Copilot Chat (Basic) license or a paid M365 Copilot (Premium) account, as detailed in a Microsoft support document.
Impact on Users
The absence of the Copilot button can be particularly frustrating for individuals who rely heavily on this feature within classic Outlook. Users may find that the Copilot icon is missing from its usual location in the top-right corner above the ribbon, as well as from the left app bar and the More Apps section.
While the Microsoft 365 Copilot app and web experience continue to function without issues, it is important to note that Microsoft is in the process of rolling out a new unified Copilot experience. For those who need immediate access to Copilot, Microsoft recommends transitioning to Outlook on the web or utilizing the new Outlook app.
Despite attempts to resolve the issue through standard troubleshooting methods—such as creating a new Outlook profile, clearing local cache data, re-signing into Office, or restarting Windows—Microsoft has indicated that these solutions do not consistently restore the missing buttons.
