Despite facing challenges with its Copilot+ initiative, which has encountered delays and scrutiny, the tech giant remains undeterred in enhancing user experience through AI.
Windows 11’s Notepad gets an AI upgrade
In a notable update for Windows 11, Notepad is introducing a feature called “Rewrite.” This new option harnesses the power of generative AI to refine selected text, providing users with a seamless way to enhance their writing. To utilize this feature, users can select the text they wish to modify, right-click to find the Rewrite option, or use the Ctrl + I keyboard shortcut. Notepad will then generate three variations of the rewritten text, allowing users to choose their preferred version or further customize the output by adjusting rewrite settings and clicking Retry for additional options.
This feature is currently available to users in the US, France, UK, Italy, and Germany who are part of the Insiders channel. Additionally, users in Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand with Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscriptions can access the Rewrite feature using AI credits.
Windows 11’s Paint app also gets some powerful new AI tools
Paint, too, is receiving a significant upgrade with the introduction of advanced AI tools aimed at simplifying image editing. The application now includes a generative fill and erase tool, enabling users to add new elements to images or remove existing ones with ease. This functionality is designed to empower users to perform quick yet impactful edits, enhancing their creative workflows.
Moreover, users of the Cocreator feature in Paint will notice a marked improvement in image generation speed, allowing for a more efficient creative process. These enhancements reflect Microsoft’s ongoing dedication to integrating AI into its suite of applications, making powerful tools accessible to everyday users.
