Half of Enterprise Windows Endpoints Have Not Yet Migrated to Windows 11, According to ControlUp Study

ControlUp, a prominent player in Digital Employee Experience (DEX) management tools, has recently unveiled insights from its Windows 11 Readiness report. This report indicates that as of June 2025, 50% of enterprise Windows endpoints have successfully migrated to Windows 11. This figure represents a notable improvement from the previous year, when a staggering 82% of devices were still operating on Windows 10. With the deadline for Microsoft’s support for Windows 10 looming on October 14, 2025, the findings underscore both significant advancements and persistent challenges in enterprise readiness across various sectors.

Industry Disparities Highlight Readiness Gaps

ControlUp’s analysis, based on over one million enterprise endpoints, reveals a stark contrast in migration rates among different industries. The Education and Technology sectors are leading the charge, with 77% and 73% of their devices upgraded to Windows 11, respectively. In contrast, the Healthcare and Finance sectors lag behind, with only 41% and 45% of their endpoints transitioned. Notably, 19% of Healthcare endpoints require complete replacement to support Windows 11, a stark contrast to just 3% in the Finance sector.

Americas Trail Behind Europe and Other Regions

Regionally, the Americas are trailing, with only 43% of enterprise endpoints upgraded to Windows 11, despite 87% of these devices being ready for the transition. Europe stands at the forefront with a 70% completion rate, followed closely by other global regions at 66%. These discrepancies may pose challenges for multinational organizations striving to maintain uniformity and security across their operational landscapes.

Larger Enterprises Facing the Greatest Hurdles

ControlUp’s findings further indicate that larger organizations, particularly those with over 10,000 Windows devices, are the least prepared for the impending end of Windows 10 support, with only 42% of migrations completed. The complexity of their IT environments and the prevalence of legacy hardware necessitate early assessments and meticulous planning.

“ControlUp’s Windows 11 readiness assessment tool equips IT teams with the ability to swiftly evaluate endpoint compatibility, pinpoint upgrade opportunities, and identify devices requiring replacement, all from a unified dashboard,” noted Marcel Calef, Americas Field CTO at ControlUp.

The Windows 11 Readiness report is accessible through ControlUp’s Windows 11 Readiness Assessment tool, which is integrated into the ControlUp for Desktops solution, aimed at enhancing the digital employee experience across both physical and cloud-based endpoint devices.

ControlUp’s insights are derived from a comprehensive sample set of more than one million enterprise Windows endpoint devices under management as of June 2025. For additional details, further insights can be explored on their website.
