In a recent advisory, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s cybersecurity watchdog, Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), has raised concerns regarding vulnerabilities found in Windows 10 and Windows 11 operating systems. These vulnerabilities could potentially allow attackers to gain “elevated privileges” on targeted systems, posing significant risks to users.
Details of the Vulnerabilities
According to CERT-In, the vulnerabilities are linked to systems that support Virtualization Based Security (VBS) and Windows Backup. The warning, initially issued on August 12 and updated on August 14, highlights that these flaws could enable an attacker with the appropriate privileges to bypass VBS security measures or to reintroduce previously resolved issues.
- The vulnerabilities affect various Windows builds, including:
- Windows 10
- Windows 11
- Windows Server
Fortunately, Microsoft has responded to these concerns by implementing necessary safety measures in their latest security patch. Users of Windows are strongly encouraged to download and install these updates promptly to protect their systems from potential exploitation.
