It just got way easier to control your Android phone from your Windows PC

Microsoft is enhancing the user experience of Windows 11 with a thoughtful addition: a dedicated Phone Link panel integrated into the start menu. This upgrade is designed to streamline the management of Android devices, allowing users to access essential phone features without the hassle of switching between applications.

Streamlined Access to Your Android Device

The Phone Link panel, conveniently positioned to the right of the start menu, provides users with a quick overview of their Android device’s status. This includes vital information such as connection status and battery level, ensuring that users remain informed at a glance. The panel also features direct buttons for Messages, Calls, and Photos, facilitating immediate access to text messages, call history, and image galleries through the main Phone Link app.

In addition to these features, the panel includes a ‘Recent’ section that showcases the latest phone calls, text messages, and images. While recent notifications are not displayed directly within the panel, users can opt to receive them as banners in the bottom right corner of their screens. For those who frequently use their mobile applications, the Phone Link app can stream Android apps to Windows 11 PCs, although this functionality is limited to specific devices.

At the bottom of the Phone Link panel, a prominent ‘send files’ button invites users to transfer files effortlessly. This feature opens a window that allows for easy drag-and-drop file transfers or the option to browse and select files via File Explorer. Additionally, a context menu adjacent to the ‘send files’ button provides shortcuts to the main Phone Link app, settings for customizing recent activity displays, and access to Windows 11’s general start menu settings.

Microsoft is currently rolling out this Phone Link panel to Windows 11 users, with reports of its availability emerging over the past week. Early adopters in the Beta and Dev channels have enjoyed this feature for several months, and it is now being extended to all users on the latest stable release of Windows 11, marking a significant step in enhancing cross-device connectivity.
