Exiting S Mode on Windows 11: What You Need to Know
Some computers come with Windows 10 or 11 in S mode, a streamlined version of the operating system for security and performance. However, this mode restricts you to apps from the Microsoft store and requires the use of Microsoft Edge and Bing as default browser and search engine.
If you find yourself needing to install software from other sources, you may consider switching out of S mode. Keep in mind that this action is permanent, and you cannot revert back to S mode once you make the change.
To disable S mode, navigate to Windows settings, then Update & Security, and finally Activation. Look for the option to switch to Windows Home or Pro and follow the prompts to exit S mode permanently.
After disabling S mode, be cautious about the software you install and ensure that your security measures, such as Windows Defender, are up-to-date. Stay vigilant against any potential threats to your system.
Remember, exiting S mode is like removing training wheels – it gives you more freedom but also requires responsibility. Proceed with caution and make informed decisions about your computer’s security and performance.
