KB5046733: Windows 11 fixes activation issue post motherboard upgrade and more

Microsoft has rolled out a new build for Windows 11 Insiders in the Beta channel, introducing enhancements and fixes that aim to refine user experience. The latest build, 22635.4580, identified by KB5046733, brings notable improvements to File Explorer, particularly in areas concerning restoration and file backups. Additionally, it addresses a significant issue related to Windows activation following motherboard swaps, along with resolving a bug affecting IPP USB printers.

Changes and Improvements

Among the changes gradually being implemented in the Beta Channel, the following updates are noteworthy:

[Taskbar & System Tray]

  • The simplified system tray, which had been introduced in Build 22635.4010, is currently on hold to rectify a few issues. Microsoft appreciates the feedback from Insiders regarding this feature.

[File Explorer]

  • File Explorer now defaults to opening folders in a new tab when launched from outside the application, such as from an app or the desktop, provided an existing File Explorer window is open. Users can revert to the previous behavior of opening in a new window through the folder options under General > Browse Folders.
  • With the “Restore previous folder windows at logon” feature enabled, all previously opened tabs in each File Explorer window will now be restored. This update also modifies the logic for the “Automatically save my restartable apps and restart them when I sign back in” setting, ensuring that enabling this option will also activate the File Explorer-specific setting.
  • A new option has been added to the File Explorer address bar, allowing users to snooze or disable the “Start backup” reminder for Documents, Pictures, or Desktop folders. This option is accessible via a right-click on “Start backup.”

Fixes Implemented

Several fixes have been rolled out for users in the Beta Channel, including:

[Input]

  • Resolved an issue for Pinyin IME users where switching between windows using ALT + Tab could unexpectedly toggle the IME from Chinese to English.

General Fixes

  • [Bluetooth LE Audio] Fixed an issue where certain devices, including hearing aids, failed to stream Bluetooth audio.
  • [Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) printer] Addressed a problem causing Windows to become unresponsive when using an IPP USB printer.
  • [Motherboard Replacement] Corrected an issue where Windows would not activate after a motherboard replacement.
  • [Country and Operator Settings Asset (COSA)] Updated profiles for specific mobile operators.

Microsoft Store Enhancements

In a significant update for the Microsoft Store, Win32 apps that are “provided and updated” by their publishers can now be updated directly within the Store, a feature that previously required external updates. Insiders can navigate to the Downloads page and click on Get Updates; any installed apps eligible for updates will appear on the pending list. Users can initiate updates by clicking the update button, as these will not commence automatically.

Additionally, users can visit the product page of a Win32 app to find an update button.

Windows Insiders across all channels running Microsoft Store version 22411.1401.x.x and higher will benefit from this enhancement.
