At the start of this year, Pavan Davuluri, the President of Windows at Microsoft, made a commitment to enhance user sentiment surrounding Windows 11. This initiative focuses on addressing significant pain points within the operating system while actively listening to customer feedback. In a notable move, Microsoft has already reinstated the much-loved vertical Taskbar, a feature that many users missed. Additionally, the company is reassessing its ambitious AI integration within Windows 11, planning to scale back the visibility of Copilot and related features throughout the OS.
Engaging with the Community
In a bid to foster closer connections with its user base, Microsoft is reviving its Windows Insider meetups. Marcus Ash, who leads Design and Research for Windows & Devices, recently shared his intention to broaden his involvement in the Windows Insider Program. He aims to “listen more closely, engage more directly, and continue improving Windows for over 1 billion people.”
For those interested in participating, here are the upcoming meetup locations and dates:
- April 21 – New York City (USA)
- May 7 – Hyderabad (India)
- May 13 – Taipei (Taiwan)
- June 4 – San Francisco (USA)
- June 23 – London (UK)
Senior Editor Zac Bowden has previously remarked on the current state of the Windows Insider Program, noting that it has diminished significantly in recent months. He expressed concern that it has become less appealing for users to sign up and test new features, as there is no assurance that these features will be made available to them.
These upcoming Windows Insider meetups may serve as a precursor to a larger event, reminiscent of the major Windows gatherings that Microsoft last hosted in 2024. Bowden has advocated for the revival of the annual Windows event, suggesting that Microsoft should embrace its platform rather than act as if it is “ashamed” of it. This could indeed signal a positive shift for the company and its community of users.
