Microsoft confirms next Windows 11 update will “accelerate app launch and core shell experiences”

Microsoft has announced that its highly anticipated Low Latency Profile enhancements for Windows 11 are set to roll out in the coming weeks. This feature is currently being tested in the latest Release Preview builds, which typically serve as the final stage before a public release.

Performance Boosts on the Horizon

Earlier this month, I revealed details about the Low Latency Profile feature, which aims to optimize CPU performance by temporarily boosting frequency during brief intervals, such as when launching applications or accessing system flyouts like the Start menu. According to sources, this adjustment could enhance app launch responsiveness by as much as 40% and improve system flyouts by up to 70%.

In preliminary tests, users have noted a significant performance uptick when opening applications, although the extent of this improvement may vary depending on individual system specifications. It appears that users with lower-end hardware may experience the most pronounced benefits, though even high-performance machines are expected to see enhancements.

Notably, the Low Latency Profile feature operates seamlessly in the background and is not user-configurable. While it is not explicitly named in the Release Preview changelog, it is referenced in a description stating: “This update accelerates app launch and core shell experiences such as Start menu, Search, and Action Center.” This aligns with the earlier insights regarding the Low Latency Profile, indicating that a broader rollout is imminent.

The forthcoming optional non-security preview update, which will incorporate these changes, is anticipated to be released by the end of this month. Following this, the updates will be integrated into the next monthly Windows 11 security patch, scheduled for June 9. This is when users can expect the changes to become available, barring any last-minute delays from Microsoft.

It’s important to note that updates are typically rolled out in phases, meaning that even after the official release, it may take some time for the enhancements to reach every device. These developments are part of Microsoft’s ongoing Windows K2 initiative, aimed at addressing key issues within Windows 11 and delivering substantial improvements over the next year.
