Microsoft confirms Windows 11 24H2 update is crashing some Ubisoft games

Microsoft and Ubisoft Collaborate to Address Windows 11 Update Issues

In a recent development, Microsoft has announced its collaboration with Ubisoft to tackle a significant issue arising from the latest Windows 11 update. Users have reported that the Windows 11 24H2 update is causing certain games to crash, prompting Microsoft to pause the rollout of this update for devices running these affected titles.

This weekend, Microsoft confirmed that players may experience unresponsiveness or encounter a black screen while trying to play specific games, including Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Star Wars Outlaws, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. In response to these reports, Ubisoft has proactively released a temporary fix for Star Wars Outlaws, although Microsoft cautions that some issues may persist.

To ensure a smooth update experience for users, Microsoft has implemented a compatibility hold on devices that have these games installed. As stated on the company’s support blog, “These devices will not be offered to install Windows 11, version 24H2 via the Windows Update release channel.”

Furthermore, Microsoft advises users against manually updating to version 24H2 through the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or the media creation tool until the issues are fully resolved. This precaution aims to protect users from potential disruptions while the companies work diligently to find a solution.
