In a continuation of its recent pattern, Microsoft has unveiled three new preview builds of Windows 11 for Insiders across the Canary, Dev, and Beta Channels. This latest release brings subtle enhancements, particularly for those in the Dev and Beta channels, where the Drag Tray feature has been rebranded as the “Drop Tray.” Below are the details of the updates.
Canary Build 28020.1737
The Canary build introduces a singular yet noteworthy enhancement: male users can now configure their pen tail button to launch the same application as the Copilot keyboard key. This feature is also present in the 25H2 build 26100.8106 and the 24H2 build 26200.8106, which were released on the Release Preview Channel just yesterday.
Dev and Beta Channel Updates
The new builds for the Dev Channel (26300.8068) and Beta Channel (26220.8062) share a consistent set of changes that will be rolled out progressively to Insiders. Here’s what users can anticipate:
- Drop Tray: The previously known Drag Tray feature is now officially named Drop Tray. Corresponding settings have been relocated from Nearby Sharing to the new path: System > Multitasking.
- Pen Settings: Users of pen devices can now set their pen tail button to launch the same application as the Copilot keyboard key, mirroring the change found in the latest Canary and Release Preview builds.
- User Folder Name Changes: Insiders are now afforded the option to select a custom name for their user folder during the Windows setup process. It’s important to note that these names must adhere to standard Windows naming conventions.
- Point-in-Time Restore Updates: Upon initiating a point-in-time restore, local administrators will encounter a settings dialog that allows them to view or modify the default restore settings. This new interface also displays a list of available restore points on the device.
As the Windows Insider team continues to roll out these updates, it remains to be seen whether they can maintain their weekly release schedule across the Canary, Dev, and Beta Channels. Notably, Microsoft had previously opened a new upgrade pathway for Canary Insiders with the optional update of build 29531.1000 released on February 18; however, no new builds from the 29500 series have emerged since then.
