Microsoft just rebuilt Copilot for Windows with a fancy native UI, and it looks GOOD

Microsoft is unveiling a new Copilot app for Windows 11, designed to provide a more integrated user experience through the company’s native app UI framework. Currently available in preview for Insiders, this updated Copilot introduces a sidebar for managing various chats, enhanced mica blur effects, and context menus that align seamlessly with the aesthetic of Windows 11.

Enhanced User Experience

Previously, the Copilot app for Windows was merely a web view of the Microsoft Copilot website. However, this latest iteration transforms it into a fully realized application, boasting a native interface that is not only quicker to launch but also smoother and more visually appealing. Users can expect a significant upgrade in usability, making the app a more enjoyable tool for AI-related tasks.

The new Copilot maintains all its previous functionalities, allowing users to engage in text-based conversations with Microsoft’s AI assistant. The Copilot Voice feature remains intact, ensuring that users can communicate effortlessly. All chat history is conveniently stored in the sidebar, and initiating a new chat is as simple as clicking the new chat button.

In addition to its aesthetic upgrades, the app includes several settings that enhance user control. Options to enable or disable the app’s startup with Windows, as well as toggling the alt+spacebar shortcut for quick access, remain consistent with the previous web view version.

Interestingly, Microsoft recently launched a similar native Copilot app for Mac, which has drawn attention for its polished design. While it may seem unusual for the Mac version to debut first, the arrival of a refined experience for Windows users is certainly welcomed.

The new Copilot app for Windows is currently rolling out in preview for Insiders across all channels, with the update designated as version 1.25023.106.0, available for download from the Microsoft Store.
