Microsoft is making strides to enhance user experience by introducing clipboard synchronization between Windows 11 and Android devices through its Phone Link system. This development is particularly noteworthy as it also supports Gboard, a popular keyboard application.
Clipboard synchronization has been a feature offered by various tools over the years, yet recent changes in Android’s clipboard management have left users searching for reliable options. In response, Microsoft is stepping in with a solution that promises to streamline this process.
Reports from Windows Latest reveal that an “Access PC’s clipboard” toggle has been spotted in the Phone Link application. This feature allows users to share their Windows clipboard with Android devices. Currently available only in early Dev builds, initial tests indicate that the functionality works seamlessly.
Once users activate the toggle in Phone Link and adjust a setting within the system clipboard options, clipboard items begin to sync instantly with Android devices. Notably, this synchronization occurs with the system clipboard itself, enabling compatibility with various keyboards, including Gboard and Samsung Keyboard. Interestingly, users have encountered more challenges with Microsoft’s own SwiftKey than with other keyboard options.
However, there is a significant limitation to this feature. While it allows for content copied on Windows to be pasted on Android, the functionality does not extend in the opposite direction—at least in this early preview. Despite this drawback, the ability to transfer passwords, links, or other essential information from a computer to a mobile device could prove invaluable for many users.
As this feature develops, it raises the question: would you find this functionality useful in your daily routine?
