Microsoft: Some Teams users can’t join meetings after Edge update

Microsoft has acknowledged a recent issue stemming from an update to its Edge browser, which has inadvertently affected users attempting to join Teams meetings. This problem, documented under incident report TM1288497, specifically impacts those trying to access scheduled meetings or links.

Details of the Incident

In a statement released on Wednesday afternoon, Microsoft informed users that a simple restart of the Teams client might serve as a temporary workaround. The company noted, “We’ve identified that a recent Edge release introduced a regression that’s resulting in failures for some users when attempting to join meetings in Microsoft Teams.” As the team works diligently to pinpoint the source of the regression, they are committed to developing a fix to rectify the situation.

Currently, Microsoft is engaged in a thorough analysis of diagnostic data and is closely monitoring recent service changes that may be contributing to the difficulties users are experiencing. “We’re furthering our investigation on the diagnostic data and monitoring recent service changes that may be contributing to the impact. We’ll provide a timeline of our next steps when one becomes available,” the company added.

Previous Issues and Ongoing Challenges

This latest bug follows another issue reported last week, where a recent Edge update disrupted the right-click paste functionality within the Microsoft Teams desktop client. Microsoft has indicated that a fix for this paste functionality issue is scheduled to roll out to affected customers in the next platform update.

Additionally, on Monday, Microsoft took action to revert a service update that had been preventing some customers from launching the Teams desktop client, leaving them stuck on a loading screen with the message, “We’re having trouble loading your message. Try refreshing.”

In parallel, the company is also addressing ongoing challenges related to Universal Print sharing, which have arisen due to a change in the Microsoft Graph API code that has hindered users from creating printer shares.
