In the wake of Microsoft’s recent patch for Windows 11 version 24H2, designated KB5051987, users have taken to online forums to express their mounting frustration. Just five days post-release, a wave of complaints has emerged, detailing a variety of significant issues that have disrupted everyday tasks.
Widespread System Failures
Reports indicate that the File Explorer has become increasingly unreliable, with many users unable to access their desktop folders. The simple act of saving Office documents or downloading files has transformed into a daunting challenge, as even clicking on a folder icon often leads to unresponsive subfolder menus.
Some users have encountered further complications, finding themselves unable to install the patch at all. In these cases, the update process stalls for hours, ultimately resulting in error messages that leave users exasperated. Additionally, peculiar glitches have been reported, including erratic Taskbar preview animations, malfunctioning cameras, and a mouse that stutters during use.
One particularly distressed user noted a dramatic decrease in their laptop’s battery life, plummeting from six hours to a mere 2.5 hours following the installation of the update.
Critics have not held back in their assessments of Microsoft’s approach to Windows 11. ZDNet has voiced strong disapproval, stating that the tech giant “keeps running into brick walls,” as each new fix seems to introduce an array of fresh complications.
Originally intended to address security vulnerabilities and glitches affecting digital audio converters, USB cameras, and passkeys, KB5051987 appears to have inadvertently exacerbated existing issues. The 24H2 update, which debuted last October, has been plagued by a multitude of known bugs that Microsoft has yet to resolve.
