Microsoft will let you pause Windows Updates indefinitely, 35 days at a time

Windows users can breathe a sigh of relief as Microsoft introduces a series of enhancements to its Windows Update system, aimed at minimizing disruptions during critical tasks. The latest updates, currently being rolled out to users in the Dev and Experimental Windows Insider channels, empower users with the option to delay updates for up to 35 days, a feature that has been highly anticipated.

In a recent blog post, Microsoft outlined its commitment to addressing user feedback regarding the update process. The company emphasizes that users will now have the flexibility to extend the pause on updates as needed, with no restrictions on how many times they can reset the 35-day delay. If users choose not to re-pause updates after the initial period, the system will proceed with the updates as per usual.

Among the other notable changes is the introduction of more descriptive titles for driver updates. These titles will now specify the device class they pertain to, such as display, audio, or battery, making it easier for users to understand what each update entails.

Furthermore, Windows 11 will now consistently offer options in the power menu to restart or shut down the system without triggering updates. This feature extends to new device setups, allowing users to bypass updates during the initial configuration process. Microsoft is also streamlining the update experience by consolidating updates, which means users will face fewer reboots. Updates will be downloaded in the background and will await a coordinated installation and restart, enhancing overall user convenience.
