Microsoft has acknowledged an ongoing issue concerning the installation of the Windows 10 KB5068781 extended security update, which is generating 0x800f0922 errors on devices utilizing corporate licensing. This update, released on November 11 as part of the monthly Patch Tuesday, marks the first extended security update for Windows 10.
Reports from business users indicate that the KB5068781 update is encountering installation failures on specific devices. One user shared their experience on BleepingComputer, stating, “We are currently experiencing the same issue with this KB5068781 across our managed Win10 devices, despite purchasing and applying the ESU license (MAK key) to all our devices. The update appears to install successfully, but after a restart, it fails to apply and rolls back with the common error 0x800f0922.”
Microsoft’s Response
In response to these concerns, Microsoft has confirmed that they are investigating the matter, clarifying that the issue is limited to devices activated through Windows subscription activation via the Microsoft 365 Admin Center. According to Microsoft, “Some Windows 10 devices enrolled in Extended Security Updates (ESU) might fail to install the November 2025 security update (the Originating KBs listed above) with error 0x800f0922 (CBSEINSTALLERS_FAILED).”
As of now, there is no estimated time for a resolution, nor has Microsoft provided any workarounds for affected users. Additionally, Windows administrators in corporate settings have reported that not all of their Windows 10 devices are recognized as needing the new KB5068781 ESU update, even when they are properly licensed to receive it.
