Microsoft has unveiled two new builds for Windows 11 and Windows 10, specifically tailored for Insiders on the Release Preview Channel. These updates bring notable changes aimed at enhancing user experience, particularly for European Union users, alongside a fresh visual feature for Windows Share on Windows 11.
Enhancements in Default App Settings
In a significant update to the Settings app, Microsoft has refined the default behavior of the “Set Default” button, streamlining the process for selecting a new default browser. With this change, additional file and link types will now be automatically associated with the newly designated default browser, provided that it registers those types. Furthermore, the new default browser will be conveniently pinned to both the Taskbar and Start menu, unless Insiders opt out by unchecking the relevant boxes.
Additionally, within the same Settings > Apps > Default apps section, a dedicated one-click button has been introduced for browsers, simplifying the process of changing the default app for opening PDF files. This enhancement is particularly beneficial for EU users, following Microsoft’s previous decision to designate its Edge browser as the default for PDFs on Windows PCs. The new setup aims to make switching browsers a more user-friendly experience.
Visual Upgrades for Windows 11
For those using Windows 11, the latest 23H2 build 22631.5545 brings an exciting visual preview feature to the Windows Share window. This enhancement allows users to see a visual representation when sharing links or web content, enriching the overall sharing experience. Additionally, the update addresses a performance issue that previously caused the Windows Search box to take over 10 seconds to load, ensuring a more efficient user interaction.
