Oh dear – Microsoft Windows Firewall was found to be complaining about…Microsoft code?

Microsoft has recently acknowledged a perplexing issue affecting Windows Firewall following the June 2025 preview update of Windows 11 24H2. This update, identified as KB5060829 (OS Build 26100.4484), has led to the generation of error messages within the security event logs, which the company has described as a “Config Read Failed” event accompanied by the note “More data is available.” Despite the frequent logging of this event upon each device restart, Microsoft assures users that it does not signify any actual malfunction of Windows Firewall and can be safely ignored.

Windows Firewall is having issues with Microsoft code in latest Windows 11 build

According to Microsoft, while the Event Viewer may display these false positives, the functionality of Windows Firewall remains intact, ensuring that system processes are unaffected. However, the presence of these misleading notifications can be bothersome, particularly for those engaged in system monitoring. The company has clarified that this issue is linked to a feature currently under development, which has not yet been fully implemented. Unfortunately, no timeline for a resolution has been provided.

In light of this situation, Microsoft has expressed its commitment to addressing the issue and will share updates as they become available. When compared to previous challenges encountered with Windows 11 24H2, this particular problem is relatively mild, especially since it does not lead to system crashes. Nonetheless, it raises valid concerns regarding the potential for unfinished code to be included in public releases.

Additionally, Microsoft has identified another issue within the same build, specifically affecting the display of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean characters under certain conditions. This problem is particularly evident when viewed at 96 DPI in Chromium-based browsers, including Microsoft Edge. The company is reportedly collaborating with Google to find a solution for this character display issue.
