Hello Windows Insiders,
As an engineer dedicated to creating technology that enhances daily life, I want to connect with you directly. Windows is a cornerstone of modern technology, influencing countless lives worldwide. Your insights have been invaluable, and over recent months, my team and I have meticulously analyzed your feedback. It has become clear that you are passionate about Windows and eager for improvements.
Initial Changes on the Horizon
Today, I’m excited to share the initial changes we will be previewing in upcoming builds for Windows Insiders this month and throughout April:
- Enhanced Taskbar Customization: One of the most requested features is the ability to reposition the taskbar. We’re introducing options to place it at the top or sides of your screen, allowing for a more personalized workspace.
- Intentional AI Integration: We are committed to integrating Copilot thoughtfully across Windows, focusing on genuinely useful experiences. This means reducing unnecessary entry points, starting with apps like Snipping Tool, Photos, Widgets, and Notepad.
- Streamlined Windows Updates: Updates should be predictable and manageable. We’re giving you more control, including the option to skip updates during device setup, restart without installing updates, and pause updates for extended periods, all while minimizing update interruptions.
- Improved File Explorer: As one of the most utilized features, we are enhancing File Explorer for quicker launches, smoother navigation, and overall more reliable performance.
- Widget Control and Personalization: Widgets will be designed to be helpful rather than overwhelming. We’re introducing quieter defaults and improved personalization options for the Discover feed.
- Simplified Windows Insider Program: We aim to make the Windows Insider Program more accessible, with clearer channel definitions and enhanced engagement opportunities.
- Revamped Feedback Hub: Your feedback is crucial. We’re rolling out the largest update to the Feedback Hub yet, streamlining the process for submitting feedback and engaging with the community.
These changes are just the beginning. Our broader plan focuses on elevating the quality of Windows 11 throughout the year, ensuring that you can feel the tangible progress as we release new builds.
Recently, I had the pleasure of meeting with a group of Windows Insiders in Seattle to listen to your thoughts, answer questions, and share our vision moving forward. This gathering marks the first of many as we aim to connect with the Windows community across various cities worldwide.
Your high standards inspire us. Windows belongs to all of us, and we are dedicated to reinforcing its foundation while delivering meaningful innovations tailored to your needs. Please continue to share your feedback as we work together to shape the future of Windows.
Best,
